couple things

-when datsyuk goes I hope the wings have a plan, unlike when lidstrom left

-how good is jankrok, does he even project as a #1 C...

-the jig is up brunner, the nhl has figured u out, u cant pull the puck back and try to shoot it every time, needs to go to the tough areas

-i hope when datsyuk goes, theres a big youth movement, that i was hoping for this season. but, we all know how much the wings hate playing their younger players.

-if fil wants 5 mill a season he can (frank) off somewhere else

-i hope they can get one of Lain.Dekeyser

A little something on Danny D. Had problems coping link so here it is:

Dan DeKeyser, D
Junior, Western Michigan University

Dan DeKeyser was the most coveted available collegiate free agent last season and that hasn’t changed this season. Among the teams heavily pursuing him are the Calgary Flames, the Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning. DeKeyser opted to return to Western Michigan this season in large part due to the impending (and eventual) NHL lockout. His return has greatly benefited not only his Broncos team but his overall development, as well. To date, DeKeyser has played in 33 games, posting 15 points (two goals, 13 assists). He logs nearly 30 minutes of ice time per game playing alongside senior Luke Witkowski (TBL) as part of one of the nation’s most dominant defensive pairings.

The Clay Township, MI native has blossomed into one of college hockey’s top rearguards. And while he is a defensive defenseman, DeKeyser is by no means the stay-at-home type. He is very mobile, plays intelligently in all three zones, and can be seen jumping into plays when opportunities present themselves. At 6’3” and 198 pounds, DeKeyser has a good frame and one attribute that has had scouts clamoring to get glimpses of him is how well he uses that frame. DeKeyser uses his size, strength and tenacity quite effectively in wearing down opposing players and taking away time and space. This is particularly evident in his excellent play along the boards. DeKeyser is an agile skater with terrific feet and great balance. He moves equally well going north-south and east-west. His skating and feet also allow him to make smooth transitions and make the right plays. One attribute that sets DeKeyser apart from many other collegiate defensemen is his ability to control the tempo of the game. He sees the ice really well and possesses great hockey sense. His decision-making has continually improved with quicker and smarter reads and reactions. DeKeyser possesses a powerful shot and can get shots to the net. He has great hands and moves the puck exceedingly well, too.

Yep, Wings have been hounding him for quite some time now. Everyone knows he wants to be promised a spot next year, witch I think the Wings would be more then happy to comply. Although he could probably benfit from one year in the AHL.

I like the Wings, but with their amazing playoff streak and the Standly Cups they've earned, I don't feel for Detroit fans right now. Maybe after a couple of mediocre seasons.

There are still a wack of awesome players on the team, they still have a great future.

Simply put Zetterburg and Datsyuk need to be better. It was brought to my attention that while TSN has Datsyuk listed as hot he hasn't scored in 10 games or something. Zetterburg 2 points in 8ish games. Add Brunner slumping and you have your reason for losing.

This team took a huge step back losing Lidstrom and to some degree Stuart, need the remaining stars to not go into slumps.

Wings fans have been spoiled for too long if this is their "enough is enough"

but as a guy thats seen plenty of wings games living near the boarder here is my $0.02

- see if you can trade howard+ something for miller. Hes a hometown guy and his brother plays there(twin brother?) maybe a sign n trade for howard

- THe wings have slowly lost their depth due to age. They should have taken a flyer on a guy like semin or stewart or what not when they were available. Never hurts to go after a guy that is low risk high reward. Especially if you can hide them beside a guy like zetterberg or datsyuk

- you need to build from the blueline out. They had liddy for so long that they may have forgot that. Sure Krownwall is good but you cant lose lidstrom and bring in former leafs and expect to win

If they keep on pace with the team they have, they are pretty much throwing up the white flag for the year.

It's not like Detroit stood there on July 1st and thought former leafs were the answer. The fact was they tried and failed, now they know how a lot of other fan bases feel when they lose out on a big name free agent.

I think this is why the Wings have trouble landing the college free agents. Prospects want to join the NHL as soon as possible. "Doing time" in Grand Rapids isn't exactly a selling point.

As someone else said, Detroit tried to fill the hole when Lidstrom left, but it just didn't pan out. I didn't realize Datsyuk was so "close" to going back to Russia. That would really suck. Of course, we've heard this before with him. Could just be a bargaining ploy. Or it could be real. Who knows?

I don't think this team needs an overhaul, but it does need a thorough cleansing. What drives me crazy is Holland thinking that the team doesn't need to change; that the team is built to win.

Wings used to win with skill, now we're forced to win with smoke and mirrors.

Pretty easy to see why Datsyuk is having trouble scoring...he's been forced to play with two 4th liners (Cleary and Abdelkader) who can barely hold on to the puck and make a play or score in an empty net. Teams aren't stupid when they see a line like that...stop Datsyuk at all cost and that line is useless. They don't have to worry about the other two at all.

I kind of expected Brunner to maybe hit a wall. He's already played more games this year (Swiss league + NHL) than he is used to. You see that often with Euro players in their first NHL season...they start to struggle in the 2nd half of the season and are worn out.

Too many of the Wings top players are trying to do too much and end up making mistakes they normally wouldn't make if they had more help.

Babcock and Holland do deserve some of the blame from stupid line combos to roster decisions.

Am I the only here who thinks $5 million on a 6-7 year deal for Howard is a bad idea? It's not really the salary that concerns me (though $5 million seems a little high) so much as the salary and the term together.

Jimmy Howard is, as far as I can tell, an above-average NHL starting goaltender. He's certainly no bum, but he's no all-star either. Given the nature of the position as well as the goaltending depth available in the NHL, I just don't think you give a guy like him a 7-year deal unless you're getting a real sweetheart deal on the price.

Don't get me wrong, consistently above-average goalies are definitely worth keeping around -- better to give a little extra to get someone with a reliable track record rather than trying to find a new $1.5 million starter every year. But goalies aren't like forwards or defensemen, who can continue to contribute significantly even if they decline a bit or if better players leapfrog them on the depth chart. You can only have one starting goalie, and you definitely don't want to be in a situation where you've got an okay-but-not-great (or worse, flat-out struggling) $5 million goalie with 4-5 years left on his deal choking your cap and preventing you from making an upgrade when one is available.

In my mind, something like $4 to $4.5 million for 3-4 years would be reasonable and more than fair given Howard's track record, his age, and the goaltending market in general.

I would agree with that. I thought the same thing when i heard of the contract. I don't really like long term deals for goalies. They can go from good to crap from one year to the next.

I would have loved if they threw 7-8 mil on a one year deal to Semin, why not when you have all the cap space they do? Hell of a lot better than signing Samuelsson for 2 years 6 mil and a no move clause.
